Mission

Our mission at HKFC Junior Soccer is to introduce to children the game of football as an enjoyable, fun and healthy sports activity, to coach them in the laws and skills of the game, to develop their interest and abilities to their full potential and ultimately to enable them to gain long-term benefit from either playing or watching the world’s most popular sport.

Although we seek to develop our most talented players to a level where they can represent the HKFC at senior level and beyond, our core mission is simply to bring the game of football to as many young people as we are able.

Organisation

Within the Soccer Section of the HKFC a committee of volunteers (mainly players’ parents) plus a part-time Administrator, manage the programmes, and the Junior Soccer Chairman has representation on the Soccer Section committee. The committee volunteers, who give their time freely, each focus on key aspects of Junior Soccer such as Coaching Education, Kit & Equipment, Finance, Legal, Child Welfare, Communications, Social, League representation, as well as Head Coaches for each of the playing groups.

Structure

The Soccer Section runs three distinct junior or youth programmes:

The Junior Soccer Programme is open to players of all abilities with ten year groups based on birth date per calendar year, ranging in age from five years old in the Primary 1 group up to 14 years old in the Year 10 group. This programme involves coaching sessions on Saturday mornings and competitive matches at weekends. From seven years old (P3) players begin competing with other local teams in the Hong Kong Junior Football League as well as in various other competitions, tournaments and friendly matches. Focusing on providing learning and playing experience for players of all abilities, the programme also seeks to develop talented players into our Youth Development Pathway.

The programme is managed and run by volunteer coaches who are all expected to achieve English FA Level 1 equivalent qualification through a three-day course organized and funded by the Junior Soccer programme. There is also a weekly session for the coaches themselves to play and improve their skills and we are always on the look out for new volunteers, the only qualification being enthusiasm and a willingness to undertake the required coaching qualification.

The Youth Development Pathway has representative squads at Under 13, Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 and Under 18 levels with players selected for squads by open pre-season trials. Each group has a specialist Head Coach supported by qualified volunteer coaches and managers. Two coaching sessions take place midweek in the afternoons and matches are scheduled in the evenings and weekends. These representative teams compete in the Hong Kong FA (Henderson) League as well as other local and international cup competitions. The aim of the Pathway is to develop players to their highest potential and ideally to a level where they can represent HKFC in one of the senior teams.

HKFC Crusaders is a programme for players with special learning needs or disabilities. As well as coaching sessions on Monday evenings attended by 40 to 50 players of all ages and abilities, a representative side also plays in competitive friendly matches against other similar teams.
